Experience at Journalism School

Hello readers,

Just a few weeks ago I started Journalism school at Humber College and had my first encounters with things such as professional video cameras, reporting courses, and learning all about the media…

It’s interesting because I’ve waited about four years to finally be in this spot…. to be enrolled in Journalism and on my way to this career path. I’m enjoying all the things that my professors throw at me from things like writing leads, news reports, research papers and my favourite web building!

I also have an elective called “The Good Life” which is all about the Philosophy of how to achieve happiness, where we find it, and how to sustain it. It is one of the most interesting courses I’ve actually ever taken. My professor goes in depth in terms of everything that is mentioned in “The Happiness Hypothesis” ¬†and explains it on his own terms as well. His lectures cover many fascinating things that are practically mind blowing. Things that some of us have never even thought of, and to say the least I am learning a lot from that class. I’ve always been interested in things like psychology or I suppose Philosophy as of recently. Not too sure the significant difference between the two, however, I enjoy reading and learning about the human mind and how it works because it never hurts to know what goes on in that complex thing..

I look forward to learning more about the structures of News articles, but I also hope that year two will be a little different, I am hoping that all my classes have new and different people to meet and chat to. Also, I am hoping that we will be able to disperse into the specific categories of types of journalism that we aim for. For example, I am interested in becoming an editor, columnist or writing for a magazine. I enjoy writing opinion based reviews as it is the kind of person i am, i like to voice my opinion and more than anything hearing feedback based on that.

Thanks for reading!

Until next time,
